November 2021 Zürich
Representatives from Tomorrow Foundation had the honour of partaking in the 30th Anniversary edition of The Swiss Foundation Day by proFonds in Zürich the 3rd of November 2021.
proFonds was founded with the aim of offering non-profit foundations and NPOs a platform for networking, exchange their experiences, discuss current issues and tackle challenges together.
The event, titled “Foundations in transition” was themed around the generational shift we’re facing. Participants were invited to look back upon shared achievements over the past 30 years, and also to ask one another what topics we might deal with in the future in our work in the foundation and non-profit sector.
Throughout the day was multiple inspirational inputs and panel discussions. Of the former can be mentioned:
Foundation assets: sustainable returns thanks to shares - by Serge Lutgen, Deputy CEO and member of the management board of Scobag Privatbank AG
‘Agility in the nonprofit sector’ was presented by Sandro Antonello and Giorgio Panzera from Idée-Sport foundation.
Digitization and climate change - tomorrow's humanitarian aid from Doctors Without Borders - by Sibylle Berger, a delegate from Doctors Without Borders Switzerland
It was especially inspiring to hear the MD of Swissfundraising, Roger Thinner, present the challenges related to the generational evolution of donors with us, emphasising on a necessary shift in focus that foundations need to take when the record-high spending power of the younger generation will lead to an actual elimination of many of the current fields of philanthropic interventions.
Other interesting inputs included a talk by Gabriela Sánchez, the director behind Choba Choba where she shared with us how they as a social enterprise run by cocoa farmers aim to put an end to the exploitation of workers that is sadly still widely prevalent.
The conference featured also two panel discussions; one about the past, present and future of Foundations and NPOs in Switzerland, and the second related to foundations/NPO and political engagement with input from Melchior Lengsfeld, director of Helvetas.
One thing is certain; the future is bringing a multitude of excitement and hope to the table, but also a considerable amount of uncertainty and everyone including the Tomorrow Foundation got to keep present and relevant to be a part of it. We’re ready for Tomorrow.
