2018 JA Africa Company of the Year Competition

Tomorrow Foundation took part to the recent “JA Africa Company of the Year Competition” held in Ghana from December 5th to 7th as one of the main sponsor of the event and as member of the jury. The event celebrated youth achievement in entrepreneurship and brought together young people from different African countries who have completed training in Junior Achievement (JA) Africa’s Company Program to compete as entrepreneurs. Teams were also competing for the Tomorrow Foundation Future Tech/Innovation award rewarding the company that best illustrates new, original and groundbreaking ideas.

Junior Achievement has been founded in 1919 in the United States and is one of the world’s largest organizations dedicated to inspiring young people and equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in a global economy. The organization operates in more than 120 countries. JA Africa regroups 14 member countries, provide activities in 1 669 schools through its staff, mentors and educators to develop meaningful student experiences and develop skills.

Our founder was judge to assess the 10 teams from 10 countries. The evaluation process included four stages process: company report, stage presentation, trade fair and interviews. After two days of competition and intense deliberations, the final award of the Africa COY 2018 has been granted to Inventive Explorers from Nigeria, a socio-technological company that developed a rechargeable hand-held LED traffic light to be used by traffic wardens to control and direct road users and help reduce the rate of road accidents and traffic congestion.

The second price was awarded to Nazware Innovations PTY from Swaziland for their voting desktop application. The third prize was granted to both Ghanaian and Kenyan teams for respectively a virtual reality solution for students and a controller device to optimize resources utilization in farming.

Finally, the Tomorrow Foundation Future Tech/Innovation award was given by our founder to the Ghanaian team whose virtual reality technology used for learning and understanding of complex topics presented the highest level of innovation.

Tomorrow Foundation was honored to participate to the Competition and admired the positive energy, enthusiasm, creativity and strong humanity displayed by the African youth during those days and will pursue its supportive actions for entrepreneurship spirit in Africa.
